Secure Access Service Edge (SASE): A New Era in Network Security
The rapid digital transformation and increased reliance on cloud-based services have redefined the network security landscape. As businesses increasingly adopt remote work and cloud applications, traditional network security models, such as the castle-and-moat approach, have become insufficient. In response to these challenges, Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) has emerged as an innovative solution. SASE is a cloud-based framework that converges network security and Wide Area Network (WAN) capabilities to meet the needs of today’s distributed enterprises.
What is Secure Access Service Edge (SASE)?
SASE, pronounced “sassy,” is a concept introduced by Gartner in 2019. It represents the convergence of networking and security into a unified, cloud-native service model. SASE combines network functionalities like SD-WAN (Software-Defined Wide Area Networking) with security services such as Secure Web Gateway (SWG), Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), Firewall-as-a-Service (FWaaS), and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA).
Unlike traditional security models that rely on central data centers and appliances, SASE distributes these capabilities across the cloud, providing secure and efficient access to applications regardless of where users are located. This model…
